About this document
Waterproofing is one of the few trades where a single job can trigger several categories of high-risk construction work at once. A balcony re-membrane means working above two metres; a basement tank-out means entering a confined space; a spray-applied job means airborne isocyanates; and almost every job begins by grinding a concrete substrate that releases respirable crystalline silica. A Safe Work Method Statement is the document a principal contractor asks for first, and it must map each of those activities to the specific high-risk construction work categories in section 291 of the WHS Regulation.
This SWMS is written for the waterproofing trade rather than adapted from a generic construction template. It covers the full sequence of a job — set-up and access, substrate preparation, priming, liquid, sheet and spray membrane application, detailing and hot work, curing and clean-up — and for each step identifies the hazards and sets control measures in hierarchy-of-controls order, with a responsible person named against each. It aligns to AS 3740 for internal wet areas and AS 4654 for external above-ground work.
Every field is editable, so you can make it site-specific in minutes, and it includes a worker sign-on register so consultation and acknowledgement are documented. Complete it, brief your crew and upload it to the builder's compliance portal — it is built to be accepted, not knocked back at the gate.
